FAQ

What people ask most before renting an e-bike

Rental and fees

How much does it cost to rent an e-bike for a day?
Minus eBike rental is NT$600 per day, including the bike rental and insurance. It is charged by the day, regardless of hours. For longer rides you can add an extra battery rental at NT$200 per battery per day. If your estimated distance is over 100 km, a long-distance wear fee of NT$2,000 is charged at the time of rental.
Do I need a license to rent an e-bike?
No. Renting an e-bike requires no license and no license plate, because e-bikes are classed as bicycles. Riders must be 14 or older. Bring an ID document at pick-up and sign the rental contract on site. Foreign visitors can rent with a passport.
Can I book an e-bike rental in Taipei online?
Yes. All Minus eBike booking is done online through LINE (LINE ID @141bhpwa). Send us your pick-up and return dates and times, your height and how far you want to ride. We check bike availability and reply; the booking is only confirmed once we do. Pick-up and return are both at Taipei Expo Park. There is no physical store.
Can I rent an extra battery to ride farther? How much is one?
Yes. An extra battery rental is NT$200 per battery per day, for when you want to ride farther. One charge gives 50–60 km; actual distance depends on road conditions. For longer routes or routes with a lot of mountain road, you can rent an extra battery. When booking, tell us how far you plan to ride and whether you want an extra battery.
What do I need to bring at pick-up?
Bring an ID document and sign the rental contract on site. Foreign visitors can rent with a passport. Book on LINE first; we check bike availability and reply, and the booking is only confirmed once we do. Then come to Taipei Expo Park (Zhongshan N. Rd. × Minzu W. Rd. intersection) at the agreed time to pick up the bike.

Bikes and riding

Are Taipei's riverside bike paths good for riding a rented e-bike?
Yes. As the Minus Routes page says, the easy routes are mostly riverside bike paths, suited to first-time e-bike riders, with gentle slopes that work for families with children. The RC-1 has a flat bar and large 700C wheels, described on our website as smooth and stable on riverside paths. You can pick up the bike at Taipei Expo Park and set off from there. Just tell us your height when booking.
What should a beginner know before riding an e-bike for the first time?
Beginners should start with an easy route, mostly along the river. Riders must be 14 or older. The RC-1 uses torque sensing: the harder you pedal, the more assist you get. Assist stops at 25 km/h; above that, it's all your legs. Tell us your height when booking so we can choose the size, adjust the saddle before setting off, and we recommend staying within 50–60 km per day.
A day-trip e-bike route from Taipei
You could choose the Daxi Old Street day trip: cross Taipei Bridge, join the Tamsui and Dahan rivers, and pass through Xinzhuang, Shulin and Yingge to Daxi Old Street. It totals about 72 km, almost all on bike paths. That is longer than the recommended 50–60 km per day, so you can rent an extra battery at NT$200 per battery per day.
How far can an e-bike go on one charge?
A Minus battery gives 50–60 km per charge; actual distance depends on road conditions. Our website recommends staying within 50–60 km per day. For longer routes or a lot of mountain road, you can rent an extra battery at NT$200 per battery per day. If your estimated distance is over 100 km, a long-distance wear fee of NT$2,000 is charged at the time of rental.
What is an e-bike's top speed?
Motor assist goes up to 25 km/h, the legal limit for e-bikes. Above 25 km/h you pedal under your own power, as on a regular bicycle. The RC-1 spec sheet also lists a max assisted speed of 25 km/h. Please ride safely according to road conditions and the law.
How long does a full battery charge take?
It depends on the bike: the RC-1 charges fully in about 3 hours; the KHS-1 charges at 36V / 2A and takes about 3–5 hours. Both use a 36V 10.4Ah lithium battery, and the RC-1's battery is removable and lockable. Charging time is as listed for each bike.
How old do you have to be to ride an e-bike?
Riders must be 14 or older. Minus eBike e-bikes are classed as bicycles, so no license or license plate is needed. Tell us your height when booking and we'll choose the right size for you. Bring an ID document at pick-up and sign the rental contract on site.
